The 100 Day Challenge: Let the Art Chaos Begin!

The 100 Day Challenge: Let the Art Chaos Begin!

Ah, it's that magical time of year again… when everyone starts their #100DayChallenge. You know, the one where people attempt to do something super ambitious every day for 100 days. As for me? Well, I’m diving into the “100 Day Art Challenge”—where the only thing more challenging than the art itself is my confidence in it.

This year, I’m not just creating art; I’m facing my fears. Fears like "What if I ruin everything with one drop of paint?" fears. This includes exploring mediums, textures, and products that make me break into a cold sweat—like watercolor.

Now, let's rewind to last year. I never liked watercolor. I remember the first time I touched the brush to the paper. It was like I was making a secret deal with the universe to sabotage my artistic dreams. You can’t really hide mistakes with watercolor. Unlike acrylics, where you can just slap on more paint and pretend the whole thing was intentional, watercolor makes you face your flaws head-on (like an art therapy session you didn’t sign up for).

But here’s the thing: I stuck with it. I committed to creating tiny watercolor masterpieces for 100 days. I learned that instead of going from dark to light like I thought I should, with watercolor, you go light to dark. Think of it as the art equivalent of making your bed first thing in the morning—it’s the right order for things to turn out well. And yes, you can always learn to *work around* mistakes, like when you accidentally spill coffee on your sketchbook but turn it into "abstract art."

The best part of that challenge? I accidentally discovered a new stream of art. Who knew that painting my dog’s face over and over would inspire a line of mini pet portraits? (If you’ve seen my dog, you’d understand the artistic brilliance here). Oh, and let’s not forget my fun Christmas card designs that I can only describe as "a festive explosion of creativity." Now I’m looking forward to adding even more cards to my card collection. Get ready, people!

But, of course, the 100 Day Challenge is never over (is it ever?). So, here’s what I’m thinking for this year:

1. Mini Plain Art Sketching

Picture this: me, a tiny 4x4 sketchbook, and some random outdoor space where I’ll sketch and paint with the speed of a caffeinated squirrel. I’ll try to capture the essence of the moment without getting bogged down in perfection. It’s like a sketchy adventure. Literally.

2. Acrylics + Mixed Media

This one's about leveling up. I’m takin' my acrylic skills to new heights. I’ll be blendin’, mixin’, and creatin’ like a wild-eyed artist on a paint-fueled rodeo with a whole lot more paint stains on my jeans

3. Perfecting People Sketching

I’ve got a goal here: I want to draw people who look like actual people. No more stick figures or awkward blob-people. I’m aiming for fun, fashion-forward mini portraits that are more impressionistic chic than super realistic fashion model. It’s like if my pet portraits went to fashion week.

Now, the big question: Do I tackle these one at a time and cross them off like a to-do list, or do I throw them all into a creative blender and see what shakes out? Decisions, decisions.

Either way, I’d love for you to follow along on my 100-day creative rollercoaster ride. It’s going to be a mix of laughs, paint splatters, and hopefully a few masterpieces (or at least one masterpiece). Who’s in?
